I think it’s really really tricky for me to pick a favourite season.. Christmas is exciting, magic and full of moody darkness. Autumn has the most beautiful colours and summer has a golden light which is a joy to capture. But my goodness spring is pretty beautiful isn’t it?!
Like lots of people, spring will probably now always be a season which evokes really intense memories after the lockdown spring of 2020. The fresh air, vibrant greens and spring flowers felt so special after being inside for so long. I honestly felt like the air tasted different- am I alone in feeling this??
These photos in the bluebells were actually taken in spring 2021. I have photographed Michael and Poppy and their two young children at Christmas and it was an absolute pleasure to be outside of them in warmer weather.
They are such a beautiful family and they thought really carefully about what they were going to wear so that the colours popped perfectly with the background.
This shoot was a really good example of me giving lots of little prompts and letting their laughter shine through. Two small children are not always going to do exactly what you ask and, as a result, my entire style with small children is to let the action unfold and me to click away in the background. No stress. Lots of playing. And time for snacks when needed!
I’m always hyper aware of protecting woodland and especially bluebells (which are protected) and I always look for a little clearing where we can appreciate the flowers without crushing or damaging any of the foliage. I always bring a couple of pretend bluebells with me or some flowers that I have bought from the shops to ensure the carpet of flowers remain safe for everyone else to enjoy.
